Unfair to do an article on exports and not explicitly name the ridiculous obsession of dar to keep dollar near 100 when every other currency was depreciating we destroyed exports ourselves. also not giving rebates
"Introducing sunset clauses to tariff protection is key to eliminate the anti-export bias" - try doing that with the automotive sector. We have a 45 year old infant industry that still needs crutches and uses its connections to ensure that there is a 150-250% tariff barrier. Even second hand cars are not allowed as "jobs will be lost." Why not push parts manufacturers to export parts and reduce tariffs. In 45 years we should have been able to reduce tariffs to under 25% but the luxury of rent seeking thru connections is not easy to do away with.
